About the event

Celebrate the wonder of the holiday season with Oil Region Ballet’s enchanting production of The Nutcracker, performed at Allegheny College’s Vukovich Center for Communication Arts. Performances will be held on Friday, December 19 at 7:30 PM and Saturday, December 20 at 2 PM and 7:30 PM.

Based loosely on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic fantasy tale, The Nutcracker tells the story of Clara, a young girl who, during her family’s Christmas celebration, becomes captivated by a mysterious wooden nutcracker gifted by the toymaker Drosselmeyer. That night, Clara awakens to find herself magically shrunken, caught in an epic battle between her beloved Nutcracker and the wicked Rat Queen.

When Clara bravely intervenes, she discovers that the Nutcracker is actually Hans-Peter, Drosselmeyer’s nephew, who has been trapped under a powerful spell. Together, they journey through a shimmering Winter Wonderland and into the Land of Sweets, where they must uncover the secret that will restore Hans-Peter’s true form.

Filled with dazzling choreography, stunning costumes, and Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, The Nutcracker transports audiences into a world of magic, courage, and love. Whether it’s your first time experiencing this holiday classic or a cherished tradition, Oil Region Ballet’s production will capture your heart and imagination.
